"Tox" (Botox/Dysport) is one of the most commonly injected products in cosmetics. It is an FDA approved aesthetic
product that temporarily resolves or reduces moderate to severe frown lines, “crows feet”/eye lines, forehead lines, chin dimpling, and “bunny’/nose lines in adults. Tox can also be used to temporarily lift the lateral brows, reduce “gummy” smiles, shrink hypertrophic “chewing muscles”/masseters, and lift the corners of the mouth. The product works by temporarily weakening the muscles it is injected into.
Injection is a quick and well tolerated procedure in the office. Results are seen to start taking effect in 3 to 4 days and results last 2 to 4 months. If a patient has his or her masseters injected, they start feeling the effect in 3 to 4 days, but slimming results are noticed at 3 to 4 weeks. The more consistently that patients treat, the longer the effect lasts.
Dr. Hjelm’s approach is to start with proven low unit injections of Tox and titrate up as needed. This finds the minimal amount of product for each patient that achieves the desired effect. There is no need to over treat!
